It appears that you've put a good amount of effort into your article and I demand a lot more of these on the World Wide Web these days. I truly got a kick out of your post. I do not have a bunch to to say in reply, I only wanted to register to say phenomenal work.

I am hearing and I don't get it. Maybe if I lived in a village where one car per hour passed along the road I was crossing, the sound of the engine would alert me not to step out and I wouldn't bother to look both ways, but I live in a city where roads have a lot of traffic on them constantly. Approaching engine sounds don't tell me not to cross because there are always approaching engine sounds. Just like you, Earplugs, I rely on looking both ways.

Here's what is hard for me, however: going home (to London) and remembering which way to look first. I've lived in the United States for well over half my life, so I now instinctively look left first. It always takes me a day or two in England to remember what I learned as a child: "Look right, look left, look right again."

Where I work there is a plaza that you can walk to by crossing some railroad tracks rather than walking around the long way on the road. Every time I cross them I get nervous... not because I wouldn't hear the trains we have around here, they are LOUD, but more from knowing the headline would be "Deaf girl hit by train."

Another bill that would benefit people who use hearing aids (regardless of age!) is HR 3101, the 21st Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act of 2009. This bill has several things for deaf, hard of hearing, and blind people but my personal interest is the provision to extend captioning from regular TV to the Internet. Caption Action 2, http://www.causes.com/captionaction2, is working to get more support for HR 3101.

whoa craziness! I don't bother changing batteries while driving, I just force myself to wait until I get home or to work to change the batteries, as I never carry spare batteries with me in between.

I thought I answered this before, but I guess not. When I get a menu system, either voice or press a number, if I have trouble with it, I hit "0". Usually that brings me to a person to talk with to. Granted, that doesn't always help, with the way some people talk, but at least gets me out of the machine system. If a voice system doesn't accept pressing numbers, you can try saying "Help" or "Customer Service." Of course some just route you to a voice menu restating all your options. (banging head into desk).

Good gosh! It's like you've been in the car with me, recording my every move! (Well, except for the part about the purse) I kept waiting for the part where you confuse the two batteries... I've so been there done that! Now I take out and discard the old battery before extracting the new one. And since I'm a dude, without a purse, I have to dig it out of my pocket while driving. With the seat belt still on... easier said than done. At least I haven't been pulled over for what looks to be a lewd act or something. And I've been know to pull the tab off with my teeth since I only have two hands, not three.

Thanks for the morning laugh! Have a great weekend.
